Our small and enthusiastic team of experienced teachers are well qualified in their chosen fields to impart their collective knowledge in a caring and friendly manner to ALL students, to help build self-esteem and enjoyment of dance in everyone, as well as recognising, nurturing and developing the gifted students.
Our dance school is open 7 days a week, offering nearly 50 different classes in Classical Ballet, Jazz/Funk/ Hip Hop, Contemporary Dance, Flamenco and Tap, to students of all ages (from 2yr olds to adults)
We have a piano for use in classical ballet classes and examinations, and the very late Denon professional audio equipment with pitch and tempo control on CD.
Our 2 purpose built studios have fixed barres and mirrors and a brand new fully sprung non-slip wooden floor. We have air-conditioning and overhead fans, together with 3 large viewing windows for parents, as well as a fully stocked dance-wear shop on site
We have been in business for nearly 40 years, and many thousands of happy students have passed through our doors, many of whom have gone on to forge successful careers as dancers, teachers, and choreographers in the wider dance community.
Our students have won the prestigious Cecchetti Gold Medal for the past 2 years.
We have a former student Samantha Vottari in her 2nd year dancing professionally with Victor Ullate’s Ballet in Madrid. Former student Victoria Adams currently in full-time training at New Zealand School of Dance. Former student Elsi Auricht-Faulks currently in full-time training at VCASS, Victoria.
Director and Principal….Miss Jackie Thompson
After a lifetime in Dance, having toured the world first as a ballet dancer, then as a professional Flamenco dancer for many years, she passed all teaching exams of Cecchetti Ballet Australia (Licentiate with Distinction) to become a Fellow of Cecchetti Ballet Australia, a Cecchetti International member, and holder of both the Royal Academy of Dancing and Cecchetti Society’s Advanced Certificates. As well as running this Dance Centre for nearly 40 years, and still teaching Adults Ballet classes, and specialist coaching for elite students, Miss Thompson was also the Classical Dance teacher for performing arts students in years 9, 10 & 11 at Charles Campbell Secondary School for 3 years.
Miss Tara Patfull
Now a qualified Teacher holding Associate Diploma of Cecchetti Ballet Australia, Tara has passed all Cecchetti Ballet exams from Pre-Primary to Advanced 1 and with over 25 years teaching experience, she teaches all classical classes from Baby Ballet to Adult, as well as Jazz/Funk/Hip Hop classes from Prep to Senior level and Adult Ballet. She has studied ballet and jazz for over 30 years, and Flamenco dance for 5 years. She is a specialist Hip Hop teacher as well, having attended many interstate and overseas Global Dance Conventions. Her firm but gentle manner is appreciated by both parents and students alike.
This year Tara has become a mother (to beautiful Baby Willow) but will be back to full time teaching after 6 months.
Miss Lauren McMahon
Now an Associate of Cecchetti Ballet Australia, Lauren has been dancing ever since she could walk. Her first role was that of the Indian Boy in A Midsummer Night’s Dream on the Festival Theatre stage at the age of 2. She teaches all Ballet and Jazz levels as well as taking all Tap classes. After completing her Year 12 studies and gaining her S.A.C.E, she began working full time in the ballet school. She excels at Hip Hop and Street Tap, having danced in every L.A.Danceforce, GlobalDance and Hip Hop Allstars workshop over the past 15 years, as well as 2 trips to the Edge Studios in Los Angeles for Advanced Hip Hop classes. After 2 years studying Sound Engineering at Adelaide Uni, she also cuts and edits all music used at Norwood Ballet Centre.
Miss Elisa D’Amico
Elisa (28yrs) from Frosinone, Italy, is an independent artist and has been a freelance commercial dancer in Europe for many years. She trained in Rome from an early age in Vaganova Method (Russian), before joining Anemos Dance Company, Rome. From 2006-2010 her credits include dancing in the Rome production of ‘Evita’, dancer for Franco Dragone (Director of Cirque du Soleil) in Madrid, Barcelona & Valencia, a dancer in the ‘Free Dance Co’, and in the musical ‘Betrothed’ at Teatro Sistina. From 2010 to present day, she has taught Contemporary, Modern Jazz & Ballet for kids in Rome.
Elisa is a contemporary & lyrical dance specialist, and teaches most of our Friday afternoon & evening contemporary classes as well as a strength & stretch class and pilates class. She has also choreographed some excellent contemporary & lyrical solos & duos for our elite students in competitions – with much success.
Miss Sarah Jones
Sarah began classical ballet at age 8 at the Carolan School of Ballet in Stirling, then at the age of 15 she was accepted by the National Theatre Ballet School in Melbourne to study full-time. On completion of the course, Sarah was one of only 8 to attain the Advanced Certiﬁcate of Classical Dance.
In 1995 Sarah spent a year dancing overseas, after which returning to Adelaide and was involved in numerous projects across S.A working as a freelance artist in many genres of dance. Early in 1997, Sarah relocated to Sydney and joined the N.S.W Ballet Company for 8 months for their season of Orpheus. In late 1997 she returned home to Adelaide and danced with small ensembles and worked as a guest artist for the next 2 years.
Sarah has obtained her Associate, Associate Diploma and Licentiate certificates in Teaching of the Cecchetti Method of Classical Ballet. She is currently studying for my Licentiate Diploma and training towards Part 2 of the Enrico Cecchetti Diploma.
